Trusts and Foundations

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and the earth’s wildlife and natural resources are facing huge threats. But together, we can turn things around.

Nature-saving partnerships

We rely on generous and committed charitable trusts and foundations to help advance conservation knowledge, protect and restore landscapes, save threatened species and connect people to nature.

With help from foundation partners we’ve been able to:

  • Protect and restore huge areas of land such as the Flow Country in Scotland and the tropical rainforests of Gola in Sierra Leone
  • Increase habitat for iconic species such as Stone Curlew in the UK
  • Engage more people with the natural world
  • Establish marine protection zones around UK Overseas Territories which cover an area around the size of India
  • Support international species recovery work including the ground-breaking Albatross Task Force and Saving Asia’s Vultures programmes

Partner with us

We would like to thank all trusts and foundations who are helping to make a real difference to the natural world. If you’re interested in partnering with us, we would love to hear from you.

Here are just some of our transformational trust partnerships

John Ellerman Foundation

John Ellerman Foundation is a UK-based charitable funder supporting nationally significant work in the arts, social action and the environment. They also play a critical role in the conservation sector as the only large foundation funder of the UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs), with their globally important biodiversity. As well as supporting work across many of the UKOTs, including the Natural World Heritage sites of the Tristan da Cunha archipelago, the Foundation enabled a comprehensive review of environmental policy across all the UKOTs. This provided an important tool for enhancing sustainable fisheries in more than 3 million km2 of ocean.

Ecological Restoration Fund

The Ecological Restoration Fund(ERF) supports work that protects biodiverse hotspots, rejuvenates degraded landscapes and promotes local environmental activism. They are committed to re-establishing nature’s essential interconnections while fostering cultural, social and economic opportunities for the communities inhabiting those landscapes. The new Fund will be supporting an ambitious programme of work for migratory birds and key wildlife habitats down the African-Eurasian Flyway, the RSPB working in collaboration with BirdLife International and in-country partner organisations. Stretching from the Arctic to southern Africa, new priority sites and landscapes along this vital global Flyway are being identified and work upscaled in key locations, at the same time as preparing for transformative investment to benefit nature, people and climate.

Who are the RSPB’s grant funders?

Thanks to our grant funders, we connect people with wildlife and habitats, empower landowners to give nature a home, and support endangered bird species.
