About
The Insh Marshes covers 10 square kilometres of the River Spey floodplain, between Kingussie and Kincraig. The marshes are home to large populations of breeding waders, including Curlews, Lapwings, Redshanks and Snipes.
Take a wander through the reserve and discover endless pools and marshes rich with life. Catch the reserve on a moody day, and the view of rumbling clouds reflected in the pools below with the rolling hills in the background is something truly special.
After years of being drained and poorly grazed, we are restoring Insh Marshes to a thriving, natural floodplain habitat. Some areas of the reserve are lightly grazed with sheep, cattles and ponies. Elsewhere, we're removing invasive or non-native grasses and conifers to allow the native plant life to thrive.

BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. They are not permitted on the reserve at any time.
RSPB Scotland welcomes responsible access, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. During the ground-nesting bird breeding season (1 April to 15 August) and in areas with livestock, we would ask that you keep your dog on a short lead and clean up after them.
Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
