Sign up for free and you’ll get all the resources you need for your Big Schools’ Birdwatch.
This year, we have new and improved resources to support data handling. Whether you’re new to Big Schools’ Birdwatch and want to get a baseline measure, or returning to monitor your data year-on-year, it’s the perfect way to discover which birds visit your school grounds.

2. Get counting
Get counting in your school grounds at any time between 4 January and 22 February 2027.
Download our survey sheets, or see if your learners can design their own, and monitor the bird species visiting your school grounds. Our useful resources also let you compare your local results to the national data, making the most of the data handling opportunities.
Turn your Big Schools’ Birdwatch into action with our Wild Challenge award. If you’re looking for ways to increase the biodiversity of your school grounds, Wild Challenge is a free year-round framework for learning through nature.
3. Take action
Make your spot count! Submit your results online before 22 February so the data from your spot can be added to the national picture. It’s easy to do with your class interactively on the whiteboard. We really want to know what you see, even if you see nothing at all. What do your results tell you about the nature in your school grounds? What could you do next to make a positive difference?
The Wild Challenge award can offer ideas to turn your Big Schools’ Birdwatch results into action that helps protect and restore nature in your grounds.
