The Loons Hide is at the northern edge of The Loons nature reserve. It has a ramp which leads directly from the car park to the hide entrance. A section of seating can be moved to accommodate a wheelchair. (Grid ref HY24672420).
The Loons Listening Wall (Grid ref: HY25352455) gives good views of the wetlands.
Loch of Banks can also be viewed from the A986 south of Twatt. Please pull off the side of the road if stopping.
The RSPB Scotland field teacher in Orkney uses the reserve for education visits throughout the year.

BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. They are not permitted on the reserve at any time.
There are no nature trails at the reserve. This is a sensitive site for breeding birds, so any access onto the marsh during breeding season is likely to cause disturbance.

There is no cafe or shop here, the nearest places for food and drinks are at Dounby (4.5 miles/7 km) and Skara Brae (4 miles/6.4 km). We recommend you bring your own food and drinks if this is likely to affect your visit.
Restrictions
RSPB Scotland welcomes responsible access, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. During the ground-nesting bird breeding season (1 April to 15 August) and in areas with livestock, we would ask that you keep your dog on a short lead and clean up after them.
Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of the reserve.
