Farm accounts

As Hope Farm is contract-farmed, we pay realistic commercial rates for all our on-farm work. To do this, we have had a Contract Farming Agreement with a neighbouring farmer.

Under our contract, the income from the farm is divided between us. With changing agricultural policies and increasingly uncertain markets and climate, we have changed the way our farm business works. So that we can remain flexible year on year, we have a contract farming agreement that should take better account of the season and land inputs than before, to deliver a fair profit for us and our contractor.

Our Contract Farming Agreement includes the income from the farm both from environmental and cropping operations, and payments for harvest sales and environmental management.

The contractor’s charge is now based on the cost of operations on the ground rather than a set area fee. That way our finances more accurately represent costs each year, which depends on season, market opportunities, and crop potential. We have also altered the split of profits to try and keep it fair
