Meet your MP in person to talk about the things you care about

Here’s everything you need to know about arranging a nature surgery: a meeting with your MP to discuss nature.

When you speak from the heart, they listen

Our wildlife and wild places can’t speak up for themselves – they need us to be a voice for positive change. Together we can give nature a voice.

What are nature surgeries?

MP surgeries are your chance to talk to your MP about the things that matter most.

Your passion for saving nature is one of our greatest strengths. By meeting our MPs in person and sharing our personal experiences, together we can influence them to protect and restore our natural world.

Many MPs will dedicate a day to meeting members of their constituency. This is called a surgery. They could take place in the MP’s constituency office, in a prominent location like a community centre or supermarket, or online.

Some of these will be publicly advertised, or they may be by appointment. Surgery appointments can be short, maybe even as little as 10 minutes, so you need to be prepared to present your case clearly and briefly. MPs are usually in parliament during the week, so surgeries often take place from Friday to Sunday.

Why nature surgeries are important and what you can do

It’s your chance to tell your MP about the issues facing nature that matter to you.

Why we need to act now

It’s vital that we tell our elected representatives they must act with nature in mind.

At the General Election in July 2024, over 300 new MPs entered Parliament and many of them are still getting to know their communities and deciding what kind of leaders they want to be. Climate and nature were prominent during the election, but since then, there have been some very public signs that nature is not the priority it should be.

This is a vital time to let them know about the threats facing nature and what matters to us, so we can influence new policies affecting nature and urge them to make decisions with nature in mind.

With one in six species at risk of disappearing from Great Britain, and 12% of species facing extinction from Northern Ireland, nature can’t wait. The new Government needs to put the right policies in place to benefit nature, the climate and us all.
